Vaping cannabis and coughing tend to go hand in hand. People who use e cigarettes, e liquid, or e juice may experience the same side effects. The most common reason for this is that you’re not getting enough vapor or that the vapor isn’t warm enough. Coughing is usually a result of the vapor irritating your throat and lungs, but it can also be a sign that you’re using too much cannabis at once. The same concept applies to smokers.

To get the most out of your pen and reduce coughing, start with very short hits, just long enough to get some vapor into your mouth. Don’t inhale right away; let the vapor sit in your mouth for a few seconds first before pulling it into your lungs. This gives the THC time to be absorbed by the capillaries in your mouth and throat, allowing some of it to enter your bloodstream before reaching your lungs. The longer you wait before inhaling, the more THC will be absorbed early on.
